Fit Life - Akvile

Akvile is a fighter since childhood. She started out in the Youth Basketball League, where she stayed for 10 years. Now she is an avid boxer, runner, practices basic yoga, pilates and fitness. For the last two years she has been setting bigger goals in boxing and running. Her main future goal is to run the Berlin Marathon. Check out our interview with Akvile and find out more about her:

1. What is your name, how old are you and what do you do for a living?

My name is Akvile, I am 26 and I am currently working as a landscape architect.


2. What kind of sport do you practice? Is it your favourite? If not, which is it?

Boxing and jogging.


3. Why did you decide to start practicing this sport and which is your motivation?

I think both these sports require a lot of endurance. I always look for some kind of challenge in life and these sports help me set the goals and achievements that I want to reach.


4. How is a typical day in your life and how do you manage to practice your sport?

As for most people the main problem is time. So during the summer season I try to train more, usually twice a day. Early morning I choose to run, because I feel that it gives me more energy for the rest of the day. In the evening I prefer boxing, because it is harder and more exhausting, so it allows me to go to bed on time and have a better, deeper sleep during the night.


5. How is your normal week training plan? Which exercises do you normally do each day?

I try to do sports 3 to 7 times per week. Depending on availability I choose boxing or jogging, but I try to workout regularly. This doesn't reduce my strength, just keeps me in the same place until I find time to come back to a regular training schedule.


6. How do you feel at the end of your training?

At every training session I try to do my best, even if it is not what people expect from me. But I never feel failure even if I do less than yesterday, because I am proud of myself every time I get up to do it. After every training session I feel like winner. I am happy, more relaxed, less stressed.


7. How does sport change your everyday life?

Sport became my most important free time activity, because it helps me to stay stronger and more focused the rest time. It pushed out laziness from my life. It helps me to be coordinated, and still live my usual life. My day starts earlier than usual, but ends as always.

I think that I live the same life as I lived before, just better.


8. Which kind of problems did/do sports help you with and does that make you feel stronger?

Boxing helped me to solve a lot of health problems with my back and legs. Stronger muscles allow my body to be active for longer, I feel less tired at the end of the day, I became more flexible. I feel better and stronger in other sports, more encouraged to try something new.


9. How do you feel about your body?


As most women, I don't feel very happy with my body. I see where or maybe why I should work out more. I am not saying that I am unhappy with my body, but perfection is endless.


10. In which way does sport help shape the way you perceive your body?

Sport definitely changed my body. I lost a lot of weight, I became stronger, more attractive and also self-confident. Even if I see where I should put more work in, I know that sport and discipline will help me reach it.


11. What positive message would you send people that want to start practicing sports?

There is no right time and place. If you want to start and change something you have to do it right now. No one cares how bad you started, everyone cares how far you walked. To want something is not the solution. Doing is a solution.
